« The Zvezda Tour, (Star in russian) : The Superstar trip co-organised with the russian distributor HellRide.
The Plan : 10 days in the russian capital with the multi-national superstar team. Including the Swiss rider Timur Karadschajew, Kevin Nemeth from Hungary, the Latvian Ruslan Kurilin and myself (Pierre Blondel from France).
The trip turned out to be quite an experience! Moscow is a massive city, we were driving for hours everyday; the roads seemed to be endless.
My First experience of Russia involved my plane landing in a different airport than the one planed, because of a so-called ‘storm’. We had no idea where we were, and nobody seemed to want to inform us of our whereabouts…What a mess!!!
Trying to decipher signs in cyrillic alphabet, and communicating with non-English (or French) speaking locals, only worsened the situation!
Luckly Evgeny (HellRide boss) was on the phone to help out, although he was at the first airport, that’s to say 2 hours from me! Thanks Lufthansa.
Another memorable aspect of Russia was the incredible amount of car crashes and broken down vehicles.
Once the mess was gone, we were reassured by the almost perfect organisation of the trip by HellRide : flat(accommodation), spots, touristic visits…
The rhythm of the trip was determined by great sessions; most of which, dating back to the days of the USSR! Entire buildings with quarters as walls, curved walls in a huge park dedicated to Lenin, flat banks used by socle for the first inhabited spatial rocket…
Riding wise, we had a good crew, including the Ruslan aka « Hello, my name is massive ». He’s not scared of going high and doing fat tricks thats for sure!!! Kevin, new school with all the actual skills. And with Timur, who is mostly into originality and style, no stunts but a clean and smooth riding.
As with every new country i visit, The experience is Real and new. Different culture, new people met, new language (can’t even order a coke alone), tasting the great local cuisine(the borsch), the russian Vodka! The best of which, called the « white swan » .
Huge thanks to HellRide for making this trip possible, especially to Evgeny for organising everything, and to Alexander for driving us from spot to spot every day, and of course… all the locals and people we have met. »
